Prof. Panetelis Sarafidis is Associate Professor in Nephrology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and Honorary Consultant in Nephrology and Head of the ESH Hypertension Excellence Center in Hippokration Hospital, Greece. He is also the Chair of the Hypertension and the Kidney Working Group of the European Society of Hypertension.
Prof. Sarafidis received his MD degree in 2000 from the School of Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and his MSc in Health Units Administration in 2005 from Hellenic Open University. He completed his PhD on the relationship of metabolic syndrome with hypertension and kidney disease at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
His research is focused on hypertension, diabetic and hypertensive nephropathy, acute kidney injury, anemia in chronic kidney disease, polycystic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in end-stage renal disease patients. He has been the principal or sub-investigator in numerous observational studies and clinical trials in the aforementioned fields. He has authored over 275 articles in peer-reviewed international medical journals and is currently a reviewer for over 60 international medical journals, serving in the Editorial Board for six of them.
