Kamlesh Khunti is Professor of Primary Care Diabetes and Vascular Medicine at the University of Leicester, UK. His research group investigates early identification of, and interventions for, people who have, or are at increased risk of, diabetes. His work has influenced guidelines on screening and management of patients with diabetes. He is Director of National Institute for Health Research Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care East Midlands, Leicester Diabetes Centre and Co-Director of a Clinical Trial Unit. Professor Khunti has been elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, is advisor to the Department of Health, and a member of the Primary Care Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. He was previously Chair of the Department of Health–Royal College of General Practitioners Committee on Classification of Diabetes and of the NICE Guidelines on Prevention of Diabetes.
